‘1936’ UNITS - UNDER DEVELOPMENT

40201          2-Hal units 2601-2692

Introduced in 1939, these units were a Bulleid development of the 2-Bil units, but with welded steel cabs and flush sides. Although originally allocated to the Eastern section, they could also be seen on Western and Central section services. Following the introduction of 2-Hap units in 1958/59, units became ‘common-user’, and could be seen in conjunction with 2-Bils on almost any non-suburban stopping service.

Kit is similar to our 4-Sub, but includes formed etched brass body shells (rather than Aluminium), motor and trailer coach floors, and bogie centres, whitemetal cabs, bogie sides and fittings, and etched rainstrips, footboards and door fittings.

 40210            2-Hal units 2693-2699

These are the post-war all-steel units (‘Tin Hals’) with flatter cab fronts. Body shells are formed etched brass, with underframe details equipment as for our 4-Sub kits 40501/3

 40502             4-Sub unit 4103

Details as 40501, but the kit depicts unit 4103 as running between December 1968 and withdrawal, with one motor coach replaced with a similar 1939 2-Hal vehicle. Hal motor coach body is pre-formed in brass, other specifications as 40501

 40504             4-Sub unit 4131

To overcome a shortage of Suburban units in the late 1960s, two 4-car units were formed from withdrawn 2-Hal motor brake thirds and trailers from ‘7TC’ unit 701. Three trailers were wooden-roofed augmentation vehicles, the fourth was all-steel. 4131 ran with one of each trailer, being formed in May 1969, and withdrawn in October 1971. The kit includes pre-formed coach bodies, the motor vehicles in brass, and the trailers in aluminium, formed etched brass motor coach floors and bogie centres, cast whitemetal cabs and inner ends, bogie sideframes, underframe details, and etched roof details, door fittings, jigs, and steps/ footboards.

 40505             4-Sub unit 4132

Details and kit specifications are as 40504 above, but with two wooden-roofed trailers. 4132 was formed in September 1969, and like 4131 was withdrawn in October 1971.
